How Video Games Helped Get Some People Through Lockdown

Lockdown was a hard time for everyone, so much so that no one really sees why they should go back at all. But, do you remember what helped to get us through lockdown? Entertainment, particularly games.

A lot of people flocked to playing games, from the hard-core gamers to the casual ones. Everyone who had a computer or a tablet would download a game and get to playing. This would help pass the time, but it did more than that.

More Than A Game

While there are many games where you could be playing something solo. There were also plenty of games that had multiplayer. Such as the shoot ‘em ups, and even the popular “Among Us” game. These let you talk and hear other players even if they spoke rubbish at the time. Or even if you just chatted through text with them. You interacted with another human being when you (and everyone) were told that it would be dangerous, due to the virus. Well, it was through a screen but still, we count it.

You see, gaming with other people helped make others feel less lonely. Even if you had gamed with strangers, they are still people. This could have decreased your sense of isolation even if it was for a short time. But, that short time is all you needed for a little, pick me up, a boost. Much like winning at the best online casinos, there is a sense of joy from having interacted with people through the screen. It is better than nothing.

It Reduced Stress

Not only does interacting with other players make us feel less alone but this could have decreased stress levels. Furthermore, the actual game itself was a form of escapism. We mean games have always been such, but last year was the time when it truly felt as such for a lot of people. And decreasing stress is needed and useful because stress can snowball into other issues such as depression, and anxiety

Escapism is one of the best ways to decrease stress and anxiety. That is why streaming services, YouTube, games, etc went up during lockdown because everyone was looking for an escape. More last year than ever before, or at least in a long while.

Even if some people did not understand why they were flocking to it, escapism could be the main draw. Or boredom as well, which was also strong when you could not leave your house. Anyway, games are a great tool for escapism. With gaming, you are the lead character and you are taking an active role in the game. You control what you do but you also react to what is going on in the game. It can keep you focused, solving puzzles can improve your mental capacity, etc. Plus, having a hobby is a great skill to gain, regardless of what kind of skill it is.

There are plenty of great things about playing games during the lockdown. Plus, they were (and are) fun. And fun was needed last year to get all of us through. Even paying for loot boxes did not feel that bad or going for a bonus without deposits for Poles players if that was more your thing. Either way, gaming and all forms of entertainment helped get a lot of us through an uncertain time that was 2020.

Gaming was and is great to help some people overcome the strangeness that is and was happening in the world at the time. It gave many people something to do. As well as goals to achieve, as is the nature of games.

Therefore, we can say that games can have a positive impact in terms of mental and physical health. Well, for many people. However, if you are going through a tough time then you should go to a professional for help. Games are a distraction, not a cure-all. They are for fun, to escape, chat with people, and have fun.
